-Restaurant to receive complimentary mobile marketing practicum from mCordis-

NEW YORK – Delicious, with great purpose – New York City restaurant Black Iron Burger earned the “Tasters’ Choice Award” at a June 8 event, the inaugural EDGE Awards, held at Guastavino's, to honor national leaders in marketing education and raise monies for Marketing EDGE, a national nonprofit organization solely committed toward enhancing the lives of thousands of college students and shaping the marketing industry’s future as diverse, inclusive, and highly skilled.

During the event, a dozen New York City eateries and catering firms competed head-to-head offering the more than 400 event participants tastings representing a variety of cuisines and dishes.  Black Iron Burger and Chef Jaime Guardiola won top audience honors with the restaurant’s signature “Black Iron Slider,” an all-natural beef patty with double horseradish cheddar, stout caramelized grilled onions and horseradish mayonnaise.
As the winning restaurant, Black Iron Burger will receive a “Digital and Mobile Marketing Workshop,” valued at $15,000, offered by mCordis, thanks to Co-founder and Managing Partner Michael Becker, who is also a Marketing EDGE Board Trustee.
“The EDGE Awards honor what’s on the disruptive ‘edge’ of marketing,” said Marketing EDGE President Terri L. Bartlett, “As this was our first annual event, we set the bar high in all categories, beginning with the lifetime achievement award presented to the industry’s preeminent leader Lester Wunderman, education institution Wharton Customer Analytics Initiative, corporate leader MediaMath and six Rising Stars – each representing dynamic expertise among young professionals destined to influence the data-driven field of marketing.”
“We realized participation in the EDGE Awards was not just any charitable opportunity, it allowed Black Iron Burger to jump to the forefront among leaders in such a critical and evolving area of NYC business,” said Chef Pedro Ruiz of winning restaurant, Black Iron Burger.  “Our burgers are a New York fan favorite – and we’re excited to have won this audience recognition from advertising and marketing professionals.  As the winner, we’re also excited to have our restaurant team receive mobile marketing guidance. Our customers very often are on-the-go, spontaneous and driven by both experience and ease of access – where mobile and on-demand know-how is most welcomed.”
“When approached to provide support of the Tasting Challenge at the EDGE Awards, I immediately said yes, realizing this not only represents a unique way for mCordis to contribute but it allows participating restaurants to benefit uniquely from the best our field has to offer  ̶  namely leading-edge development to catapult a restaurant into the vastly changing marketplace,” said Michael Becker of mCordis.”
“In the restaurant industry, we’re seeing mobile marketing best practices applied at a pace far ahead of other industry categories – it’s the nature of the market, and the mobile tools available to the consumer,” Becker said.  “The June 8 EDGE Awards event was a fantastic overall experience for Marketing EDGE supporters – and I’m grateful to share mobile marketing insights with Black Iron as the winner of the evening’s Tasters’ Choice Award.”
“In true NYC fashion, adding the restaurant challenge seemed perfect – and fun – bringing personality and flair to our inaugural event as we showcased 12 restaurants, 12 recipes and just plain deliciousness, all under one roof.” Bartlett said. “With the elegant and dramatic Guastavino’s as our host venue, what better way to celebrate marketing’s edge than to give our attendees the opportunity to cast their vote for the evening’s best recipe.
“It’s the kind of diversity that also happens to reflect the wide array of experiences that are feeding today’s marketing talent.  We thank the restaurants who had the foresight and gumption to join us, the industry leaders willing to join in our crusade to ensure future generations of talent, and the students who demonstrated that our future is bright thanks to their curiosity, commitment and enthusiasm… as they prepare to launch their careers in this field,” Bartlett said.
