JP Barcenas Interview

Name: JP Barcenas
School: University of Southern California
Current Position: Operations Analytics
Company: BeachMint

Could you give a brief description of your current job and responsibilities?

Currently I work under the VP of Operations helping with the logistics of the company. I monitor a lot of the data in regards to our manufacturer, our warehouse, our customer care team, and other logistics and fulfillment services. I also continue to support the customer care team, for which I had previously been responsible. I continue to work with our marketing and product development teans as a liaison with our operations team to make sure we can efficiently serve our customers in new ways.

How has your experience in NextGen helped you in your current position?

The NextGen program really helped me to understand what type of environment I wanted to work in. I was fortunate enough to work with DIRECTV and Guthy-Renker, two successful companies, but with different environments. This exposed me to new experiences that I wasn't able to truly see in my previous internships or in the classroom.

What kind of connections have you made through your involvement with NextGen?

I have been able to make great connections with former co-workers through the NextGen program. I have been able to call up former co-workers and ask them for help and guidance with projects, which has really helped me out at my current company. I've also learned that it's a small world, as three of my current co-workers are ones that I have previously worked with through the NextGen program.

What advice would you give to someone considering participation in NextGen?

My advice to future NextGen participants is to not be intimidated in your new role. Always be ready to accept new assignments and ask for new work; don't be afraid to explore.

If you could only use one word to describe your NextGen experience, what would it be?
