Dissertation Award FAQs

Who is eligible to participate?

The Shankar-Spiegel dissertation proposal competition is open to Ph.D. candidates worldwide who have successfully completed their comprehensive preliminary exams as certified by the chair(s) of their dissertation. Participation in other grant or award programs does not preclude being considered for this award.

Doctoral candidates in disciplines other than marketing are encouraged to apply (i.e., computer science, economics, management science, organizational psychology, statistics, advertising and communications, strategy, management and organization, information systems, and other relevant disciplines whose developments help advance the understanding of interactive and/or data-driven marketing).

How do I enter the competition?

Submit the Intent to Compete form for the competition to indicate your interest in participating. The window for application forms for the 2015 Award will be open through April 30, 2015.

What is the deadline for the competition?

All entries are due by June 1, 2015.

When will results be announced?

Results will be announced in September 2015.

What is the winning prize?

Marketing EDGE will award up to $6,000 ($3,000 to the winner(s); $1,500 to the Honorable Mention(s)) in financial assistance to be used for travel, conference attendance, data collection, and other expenses for conducting and presenting the results of the research.

Winning candidates will be assisted in gaining the cooperation of marketing firms for data collection, as well as generous use of databases held by or accessible to Marketing EDGE.
