Student Marketing Scholarships

A career in direct marketing begins with an outstanding education. With tuition costs rising, this education has become accessible to fewer and fewer. Marketing EDGE believes that a high-ticket tuition price should not be a roadblock on your journey to a career in this ever-changing industry. To combat this, Marketing EDGE is able to award specialized scholarships to deserving part-time and full-time students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The generous donations of the marketing community make this possible through their contributions to the following funds:

Mike Buonchristiano Memorial Fund – (For Undergraduate students) Established in memory of Mike Buoncristiano, a past president of the Direct Marketing Club of New York and recipient of the Club’s Silver Apple Award, this fund offers opportunities to students beginning their careers in marketing. Each year, Marketing EDGE awards scholarships to deserving full-time undergraduate students.

Collegiate ECHO Marketing Scholarships – Each year, Marketing EDGE holds the Collegiate ECHO Marketing Challenge. Undergraduate winning teams' schools receive scholarship monies to give to deserving students who wish to study integrated marketing.

Robert DeLay Scholarship Fund - (For Undergraduate students) When Mr. DeLay received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his service as the DMA President, the direct marketing community joined together to establish this Fund in his name to provide scholarship support to a worthy undergraduate. To this day, Mr. DeLay remains engaged with Marketing EDGE as he provides cherished input and direction. 

Mark Duda Scholarship Fund - (For Graduate students) This fund was established in memory of Mark Duda, Director of Sales, Database Marketing Services at the Meredith Corporation. Members of the marketing community joined together with Mark’s family to establish a scholarship fund in his name. This fund provides opportunities for students studying data and targeting strategies in data-driven marketing.

Lee Epstein Fund – (For Undergraduate and Graduate students) To provide opportunities to future direct-marketers, Marketing EDGE awards various scholarships to deserving undergraduate students in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut each year. These scholarships were established in honor of Lee Epstein, founder of the non-profit Direct Marketers Gateway, Inc. Epstein was was a lifelong supporter of integrated marketing educational programs.

Dave Florence Fund – (For Undergraduate students) The employees, colleagues and clients of Direct Media Inc. partnered to honor the induction of the company's Chairman Dave Florence into the Direct Marketing Association Hall of Fame by creating this fund. This award is one of many offered by Marketing EDGE each year for full-time undergraduate students.

Don Kuhn Memorial Fund (For Graduate students) The late direct-response fundraising pioneer Don Kuhn has had his contributions commemorated through the Don Kuhn Memorial Fund, established in 2006. Each year, Marketing EDGE awards this scholarship to a graduate student with a demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in non-profit marketing.

Richard Montesi Scholarship Fund - (For Undergraduate students) Richard “Dick” Montesi served as president of Marketing EDGE, and this scholarship honors his 20-year legacy in the marketing industry. During Montesi’s years at Marketing EDGE, his vision and hands-on efforts led to hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship funds being allocated for in-need and motivated students. In addition, he raised funds to introduce programs which ensure the future of the marketing field.

Lorraine Zitone Scholarship Fund – (For full-time and part-time students) This scholarship fund for both full-time and part-time students was established in memory of Lorraine Zitone, a 21-year devoted employee of the DMA. Each year, Marketing EDGE awards one scholarship to a deserving part-time or full-time undergraduate student in the New York area in Zitone’s honor. A portion of the annual support for this fund comes from the DMA’s Committee of Retired Directors.
