Worth Linen is Founder and CEO of WLA Inc., a Direct Marketing Consulting Firm that provides consulting and marketing services to a broad range of clients including Magazine Publishers, Catalogs and E-tailers, Consumer Financial Service Companies, and Venture Capital Firms. WLA also manages the direct mail fundraising program for The USO, generating over $60 million per year to help support the magnificent men and women of our military, our wounded warriors, and their families.
Other current and former clients of WLA include American Express, Bear Stearns, BMG Music, Bookspan, CyberDefender, GE Capital, General Atlantic, General Catalyst, Guthy-Renker, Harper Collins, Higgins Capital, New Vitality, Paramount Solar, US Naval Institute, Wit/Soundview, and many others.
Worth is an old hat in the Direct Marketing Industry, having started his career in the 1970s at Wunderman Worldwide, where he ran the gamut from Assistant AE to Vice Chairman. He won numerous awards: an Effie, a Lion D'Or, and 5 ECHOs, including the first Diamond Echo ever awarded.
In 1991, Worth left the agency world to become CEO of BMG Music Service. Under his leadership, BMG grew from a $250 million-per-year loser into a billion dollar company with 11 million members and the highest profits of any Bertelsmann division.
In 1997, Worth was recruited by GE Capital as Chairman of The Signature Group, an $800 million telemarketing company serving the Credit Card Industry. In two years, he improved Signature's market share by 20 points versus its chief competitor, Cendant, and ultimately sold Signature for $950 million, enabling its parent company, Montgomery Ward, to emerge from bankruptcy.
Worth has served two terms on the Data & Marketing Association's Board and Executive Committee, was co-chair of its online Privacy Committee, and served on its Internet Advisory Committee. He served as General Chair of the Caples Awards and Chairman of Direct Marketing Day in New York. He has also spoken frequently at DMA events and lectured at New York University's Direct Marketing program.
