Honor Will Be Presented During DMA2011 in Boston
New York, NY — The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) today announced that Donna L. Hoffman, Ph.D., the Albert O. Steffey Professor of Marketing and co-Director of the Sloan Center for Internet Retailing at the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Riverside, will receive the DMEF Robert B. Clarke Outstanding Educator Award.
The honor will be presented at the 2011 DMEF Direct/Interactive Marketing Research Summit Awards Luncheon on Sunday, October 2, at the Westin Boston Waterfront. The Summit is the preeminent and must-attend conference for academics, Ph.D. candidates, and practitioners who are interested in pursuing research and teaching in the field of direct/interactive marketing. It will be held during the Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) DMA2011 Conference & Exhibition, the Global Event for Integrated Marketing, which will run October 1-6 in Boston, Massachusetts. The honoree will also be introduced the night before the Awards Luncheon at DMEF’s Annual Awards Dinner, which brings both marketing professionals and academics together to celebrate the growth of multichannel marketing, stress the importance of education in the greater community, and advance cutting-edge direct and interactive marketing educational resources.
“Throughout her career, Professor Hoffman has bridged the divide between the world of academics and the world of practitioners,” said Richard Hochhauser, chairman of DMEF. “Her expertise is widely sought by practitioners — and her list of award-winning, influential, published research, as well as her accomplishments in teaching — demonstrate her to be the ideal recipient for this honor.”
Robert B. Clarke Outstanding
The 2011 Robert B. Clarke Outstanding Educator Award recognizes an academician’s overall achievement in direct/interactive marketing education. It is based on an educator’s record of teaching, writing, research, and speaking. Past honorees have included Dr. V. Kumar, Georgia State University; Dr. Edward C. Malthouse, Northwestern University; Dr. Peter S. Fader, the Wharton School; Dr. Venkatesh Shankar, Texas A&M University; Dr. Lisa Spiller, Christopher Newport University; Dr. Marjorie Kalter, New York University; and Dr. John Deighton, Harvard University.
Nominations are reviewed by DMEF staff and semi-finalists are presented to the DMEF Nominating & Governance Committee, whose recommendation is presented to the Executive Committee for final selection and to the full DMEF Board of Trustees for approval. The recipient becomes the academic representative to the DMEF Board of Trustees for a one-year term.
|Professor Hoffman is an internationally recognized expert and sought-after industry speaker in the areas of social media, online consumer behavior, and digital marketing trends. She has worked with major corporations on the topic of digital marketing strategy, including Procter & Gamble, Intel, Microsoft, FedEx.com, Land’s End/Sears, Walmart.com, and many others. She co-founded and co-directs the first academic center for electronic commerce in the United States.|
The New York Times calls Professor Hoffman’s pioneering effort “one of the premiere research centers in the world for the study of electronic commerce” and The Wall Street Journal recognizes the effort as the “electronic commerce pioneer among business schools.” She has been awarded many of the field’s most prestigious research awards, including the Sheth Foundation/Journal of Marketing Award for long-term contributions to the discipline of marketing, the Stellner Distinguished Scholar Award from the University of Illinois, and the William O’Dell/Journal of Marketing Research Award for long-term research impact. Hoffman publishes widely on the topics of consumer behavior in online environments and Internet marketing strategy in many of the top academic and managerial journals.
