DMEF to Present Honor at Marketing Research Summit in Chicago
April 27, 2013 — The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) is pleased to announce that Arvind Rangaswamy, Ph.D., the Jonas H. Anchel Professor of Marketing at the Smeal College of Business, Penn State University, will receive the Robert B. Clarke Outstanding Educator Award. The honor will be presented at the 2013 Direct/Interactive Marketing Research Summit Awards Luncheon on Sunday, October 13, at the McCormick Place Convention Center, Chicago, IL.
The Summit is the preeminent and must-attend conference for academics and Ph.D. candidates who are interested in researching and teaching data-driven marketing, including digital, social, and database marketing topics. It will be held in conjunction with the DMA2013 Annual Conference & Exhibition.
Dr. Rangaswamy will also be introduced that evening at the prestigious Annual Awards Dinner, which presents marketing professionals the unique opportunity to gather together to celebrate the growth of data-driven, multichannel marketing; stress the importance of educating future talent; and help advance cutting edge data-driven marketing educational resources.
“Dr. Rangaswamy is not only a highly regarded academic and teacher, he has worked with leading companies and supports the DMEF — serving on the editorial review board of our premier academic publication, Journal of Interactive Marketing,” said DMEF President Terri L. Bartlett. “We are honored to acknowledge the lifetime work of this widely published scholar, who has developed a stellar record of research and teaching throughout his career.”
Dr. Rangaswamy joined Penn State in 1993. He was previously a faculty member at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and at the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.
He is a Fellow of the IC2 Institute, was an IBM Faculty Partner (2000-2001), and is the Chair of the e-Business Section of The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). He is also the Research Director of the eBusiness Research Center at Penn State, and the Program Director for Electronic Markets and Marketing Information Systems and a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for the Study of Business Markets (ISBM) at Penn State.
A particular focus of Professor Rangaswamy’s current research is to develop concepts, methods, and models to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of marketing using information technologies, an area in which he is internationally recognized. This research covers such topics as marketing modeling, online customer behavior, online negotiations and Internet business models. He currently teaches graduate courses in marketing engineering and e-Business.
Robert B. Clarke Outstanding Educator Award
The Robert B. Clarke Outstanding Educator Award recognizes an academician’s overall achievement in direct/interactive marketing education. It is based on an educator’s record of teaching, writing, research, and speaking. Recent honorees have included Dr. George Milne, University of Massachusetts Amherst; Dr. Donna L. Hoffman, University of California Riverside; and Dr. V. Kumar, Georgia State University.
Nominations are reviewed and selected by DMEF staff and Board. The recipient becomes one of four academic representatives on the Board of Trustees, serving a one-year term.
Headquartered in New York City, the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) (www.marketingEDGE.org) works to educate, develop, grow and employ college students in the field of marketing, thereby expanding and enriching the talent pool of trained, market-ready marketers. Established in 1966 by members of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) who wanted to give something back to the community, DMEF is today a separate, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that is supported solely by tax-deductible contributions from individuals and companies. Tax-deductible contributions are the lifeblood of the organization; funds raised support a broad range of world-class educational programs and scholarships.
Since its founding, thousands of students have taken advantage of the organization’s educational programs, entering the field with the competitive edge of being “workplace-ready.” Many have gone on to become today’s marketing leaders, an indication of its success.
