Could you give a brief description of your current job and responsibilities?
I work for L2, which is a membership organization that brings together thought leadership from academia and industry to drive digital marketing innovation. We provide executive education events, benchmarking, and advisory services for prestige brands. At L2, I lead Digital IQ benchmarking studies and help clients such as L'Oréal, NARS Cosmetics, and Moët Hennessy to develop digital and social media strategies.
How has your experience in NextGen helped you in your current position?
NextGen provided me a foundation of skills that spanned far wider than a traditional entry level job. In one year, I learned about analytics, account management, strategy development, business development, user experience, and research. I still use every single one of those skills on a day-to-day basis at L2.
What kind of connections have you made through your involvement with NextGen?
I got both of my jobs after I finished the program due to the network that I built while I was rotating through the four companies. My first job was with one of the companies that I rotated with, and I found my current position at L2 through my mentor from my first rotation at Wunderman in 2007. NGL Associates have the ability to gain a strong network in just one year of the program, through the people you work with at the companies, your peers in the program, Marketing EDGE staff and Board of Trustees, and the alumni from past NextGen classes.
What advice would you give to someone considering participation in NextGen?
Be a sponge. You likely will have access to some very smart, influential, senior people through the program, so be prepared to soak up as much of their advice and knowledge as you can over the course of the year.
