Michael Becker

Co-Founder & Managing Partner North America, mCordis

When experts in mobile marketing are mentioned among marketing professionals, there are few individuals whose names are more readily offered than Michael Becker, our EDWARD N. MAYER, JR. EDUCATION LEADERSHIP AWARD honoree for 2014.

Michael Becker is a true entrepreneur, evangelist and educator. He is managing partner North America for mCordis, a global mobile marketing educational and strategy services company, and a long-time advocate for responsible mobile marketing worldwide. In addition to his role at mCordis, Michael is a strategic advisor and board member to a number of firms, including Marketing EDGE, Mobile Marketing Association, Assurant Solutions, Somo, Funmobilty and Privowny. He is also a professor of mobile marketing at National University and a candidate for a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at Golden Gate University. For those who know Michael, as we do, he is tireless in his efforts to share knowledge with those around him, including, but certainly not limited to: his customers; the industry at large; and students, including those enrolled in college and university degree programs; as well as mid-career and seasoned marketing professionals, all of whom regularly seek him out time and time again.

During the past decade, Michael has been instrumental in the growth of the mobile marketing field. He was a co-founder and is now strategic advisor to Archer, a leading mobile engagement solutions provider. He was one of the pioneers of the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) and has served on its board since 2005 and was its managing director in North America for three years (2010-2013). Prior to and while serving at the Mobile Marketing Association, he worked cooperatively with the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the Direct Marketing Association on self-regulatory ethical guidelines for business conduct, governing email, SMS and MMS communications.

Michael is an educator at heart and the author of a number of articles and books and has delivered hundreds of mobile marketing educational workshops, seminars, keynotes and panels throughout the world. Most recently he released “Mobile Marketing Fundamentals,” an online video tutorial, with Lynda.com. He founded the MMA International Journal of Mobile Marketing, which released 18 issues and nearly 200 articles between 2005 and 2014. He co-authored Mobile Marketing for Dummies, Web Marketing for Dummies and Mobile Internet for Dummies and has written countless articles and chapters on the current and future states of mobile marketing.

In all these ways, Michael Becker embodies the spirit of Ed Mayer – and the dedication, energy, passion and vision he had for marketing education that is still so necessary in today’s dynamic marketing environment.
